Barbara Zangaro Jones, 2017 Golden Hand Service Award Recipient, appointed as Poker Gives Executive Director
Las Vegas, NV, January 2, 2019 – Poker Gives, now entering its 11th year providing services to the community to military families and homeless veterans, has embraced the work of Barbara Zangaro Jones efforts to serve the homeless population of Las Vegas. She accepted the appointment of Executive Director and is coordinating this important service in a more formal way. “We have been volunteering to help the homeless and support services for victims of domestic violence for over 10 years. As a person who works in the poker industry and a poker player myself, I’m excited to now to formalize our efforts under the umbrella of Poker Gives and take our mission to a whole new level.”
Barbara is a volunteer extraordinaire. She has been coordinating efforts to help the homeless in Las Vegas with weekly distributions every Monday night at 701 McWilliams Street where she and a host of volunteers distribute donated items such as toiletries, socks, clothing, blankets and other items desperately needed by the homeless population. Anyone wishing to assist in these efforts, feel free to join in.
“Our organization has grown over the years and whenever it is feasible to expand our programs to serve other needed services in our community, we are open to doing so.” Said Lupe Soto, CEO of When Charity Works, Inc, the parent charitable organization over the Poker Gives program. “Barbara’s dedication and vision on serving our community is in perfect alignment with our mission. She brings another aspect to our current mission of identifying homeless veterans to reintegrate them back into the veteran’s services programs.” She added.
Poker Gives was originally founded by poker industry professionals Mike Sexton, Linda Johnson, Jan Fisher, and Lisa Tenner as a way for poker players and the poker industry to give back to worthwhile charity organizations. They passed the baton to When Charity Works Inc, an all-volunteer charitable organization serving Nevada in 2015. Poker Gives was then redesigned to serve military families and homeless veterans.
